After hearing great, and not so great reviews from family, finally got to try out this restaurant. Basic decor, paper napkins and a small menu, with an open plan Kitchen. “Unusual styled Restaurant.”

We were greeted and served (efficiently) by the owner, the menu was interesting and varied, the starters and main dishes were readily adapted to suit my food intolerance. The food was well presented and very tasty,a fresh tasty, between courses, complimentary salad was a pleasant gesture. The wine was very good. The ambience didn’t really suit our idea of evening…

“Very tasty food”

A perfectly pleasant place, but the food, both in concept and delivery, was rather bland and unimaginative. Andalucian lamb, for example, was underspiced and haloumi fritters failed to awaken the tastebuds. Without, I hope, sounding patronising, we came to the conclusion that this place is probably the best Dover has to offer.

“Unexpected great find”

The Allotment uses local products and the menu is listed on a chalked specials board. My wife started with pumpkin soup while I had some fresh bocconcini cheese with fresh tomatoes. We were served a complimentary dish between courses which proved creative in bringing together two very different flavours. The main courses were also excellent as was the blueberry cheesecake…
